Guiding Star

Guiding Star takes the time and special care to do complete bio-psycho-social-spiritual assessents on each client at the start of each case. I will perform this assessment over several face-to-face visits with the client gathering as much information as possible so that any decision is well informed. Guiding Star is sensitive to the spiritual needs of clients and supports the client's spiritual health in unison with their medical and mental health needs. 

Guiding Star has a passion for serving the underprivileged of Albuquerque. Guiding Star comes with years of education and experience directly related to mental health, disability and legal matters. Guiding Star serves the mentally ill, homeless, and those with Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Dementia, Schizophrenia and beyond. 

Guiding Star specializes in Veteran Care. Guiding Star serves many veterans around the state and has a special place in their heart for those brave men and women who served our country. Guiding Star wants to ensure that Veterans are receiving proper care and the respect that they deserve.

 Guardianship:

As a Legal Guardian, Guiding Star provides valuable means of protection for severely at risk persons. We are appointed by the District Court to assist with personal affairs of an incapacitated person. Duties and responsibilities include:

• Determining where the individual should live based on their needs
• Arranging for necessary care, treatment and other pertinent services
• Assuring that their daily basic personal needs are being met
• Attending medical appointments to consult with the person's medical team
  
• Financial Management
• Regular visits and monitoring of their home and environment
• Advocacy to assure that programs and services are in their best interest

 Conservatorship:

Guiding Star is appointed by the District Court to protect and manage the finances of a person that is unable to do so for himself or herself as a result of illness or other disability. As a Conservator, Guiding Star has the power and the duty to protect and manage this person's property. This includes gathering assets of the estate, investment, and using these assets for the person's benefit. Our duties and responsibilities include:

• Managing our client's finances
• Making sure our client's bills are paid
• Investing his or her money wisely
• Assuring that our client's property is safe
• Confirming that our client is recieving all the income and benefits (s)he is entiltled to
• Verifying that tax returns are filed on time



VA Fiduciary: Guiding Star assists our community's Veterans who are unable to manage their own benefit checks. Our duties and responsibilities include:

• Paying for our Veteran's basic needs including housing, food, clothing, medical needs and personal expenses
• Allocating the Veteran's money so that their basic needs are covered
• Budgeting, Bill Payment and Credit Liason 
• Accounting for how Veteran's benefits are being spent
• Reporting to the Veteran's Administration
